USS Helena at Pearl Harbor

Return to Helena at Pearl Harbor Main Page

The 1010 Dock is part of the Pearl Harbor Navy Yard.

My attempts to learn the date when the Helena
was first berthed there in December 1941 have been unsuccessful.

The most likely place for this information is in the
December 1941 Deck Log

The torpedo that hit her created a large hole on
her starboard side below the waterline.

Temporary repairs were made and she entered
Dry Dock #2 ( DD#2 ) on 10 December 1941.
She was there until 31 December 1941.

During the time that the Helena was in DD#2,
several men were transferred to her.

About 80 of these men came from the Oklahoma.

In January 1942 she had been sufficiently repaired to make the journey
to Mare Island Navy Yard for additional work and upgrades.

Below is a drawing of Pearl Harbor with labels for Berth B2 and Dry Dock #2.

This is followed by two pages from the Pearl Harbor Navy Yard
War Diary for December 1941.

At the bottom of the page is an aerial photo of the
Helena in the dry dock.
