Part 1
THE NIMITZ GRAY BOOK

Except for the letter from James Forrestal, Secretary of the Navy, the source for the below documents is the
Nimitz Gray Book.
The complete 8 volume series can be downloaded from Ibiblio.org

The Gray Book pages are presented in one of of four colors:

WHITE : Running Summary, a daily diary
GREEN : COMMUNICATIONS OF A TACTICAL NATURE
PINK : COMMUNICATIONS BETWEEN HIGH LEVEL OFFICERS
YELLOW : COMMUNICATIONS AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL

All the below pages are GREEN and the numbers at the far left of each message indicates DATE and TIME sent.

The 14 0001 messages were sent from the HELENA, now the ship in command of the Task Force/Group. She reports the torpedo attack against the Juneau in pages 1000 and 1001.

Following the two pages of 14 0001 are three pages ( 980 - 982 ).
Within Page 982 is 14 1406 in which the HELENA notifies COMSOUPAC that the Juneau had been sunk.
A B-17 was notified of this visually

In Part 2 and Part 3 are documents stating how the B-17 notified proper authorities.
