USS Missouri

The USS Missouri is moored in the same location as the USS Oklahoma on 7 December 1941. The pier leading from Ford Island to the Missouri is where the USS Maryland was moored that Day of Infamy.

On the pier next to the Missouri is a color version of a famous B&W photo taken on VJ Day.

The main deck is where the surrender took place on 2 September 1945. The photo of the location where the surrender was signed is much clearer than my night attempt from December 2016. Above this plaque is a sign providing a few details of the surrender.

Two tours of the Missouri are available. The short one lasts about a half hour while the long one takes at least 90 minutes, going into the depths of the battleship.

Below Decks was taken somewhere between Decks 4 and 7 and in there is a yellow rail overhead. This was used for transporting heavy loads. It would be impossible to close the hatch with this in place and I do not remember how the rail was lowered to make this possible.

On 7 December 1941 the Oklahoma's bow was pointed towards the entrance of Pearl Harbor. In the photo USS Oklahmoma Location the bow is pointed towards Aiea.

In this photo there is a white awning to the left of the upper turret and this covers the Surrender Deck.

Across the water from the Missouri is the 1010 Dock. This is where the Helena was moored 7 December 1941. The larger structure with orange and white squares is the signal tower. You will notice a tall smoke stack in the middle of the photo. One of the Helena's shells put a hole in this smoke stack.
