INTRODUCTION

Albert Lawrence Lucchetti enlisted in the US Navy on 18 September 1940 and
came on board the USS Helena CL50 on 29 November 1940.

His name appears with the men of the 4th Division in the 1940 Christmas menu.

In April 1942 his request to transfer to the Submarine Service was granted and
he left Mare Island Navy Yard, Vallejo, California,
for New London, Connecticut and the submarine school.

Nearly all the photos in these pages are from his album.

His daughter, Sharlien Lucchetti Harrington, has granted permission to use these photos.
Sharlien has also been quite helpful by providing information about her family.

The photos and stories in The Collection revolve around
Albert Lawrence Lucchetti ( Al ) and his future wife Arlien Ruth White ( Arlien ) .

These photos are from Honolulu and
the area around Mountain View and Cupertino, California.

Within the section titled
Al and Arlien
are several maps along with a few details of each of their families.

Al's family is fairly straight forward while in Arlien's you will encounter some twists and turns.

Other sections contain photos and a few details to describe the locations.

From his daughter Sharlien:

" Dad was topside on the Helena 7 December 1941, feeding shells into a 50 calibre gun.

Standing next to him was John Campbell Penysl who was hit and Killed in Action. "

Below the photo is the

and two pages with signatures of some of the men Al served with.
